Imagine the scene. It is night. You are cramped into a freezing aircraft several thousand feet in the sky. 
And then, from out of the darkness, comes danger – and you are forced to jump out. 
This is John Evans’s story. A bomber pilot during World War Two, he was shot down and went on the run from the Nazi police. 
He was helped by ordinary men and women, who risked their lives to shelter and protect him.
This is a story of courage and adventure, and of an amazing meeting with a former enemy.

We also held a collective worship to consider the sacrifices and bravery of the ordinary civilians in this story who proved themselves to be real heroes and wondered about what we do in our everyday lives to help others."
